EA Trademarks Desert Strike

EA Trademarks Desert Strike

EA has filed two new trademarks for its Desert Strike IP with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It is said that this move by EA hints towards a remake of the once commercially successful title, but I’ve started to become a bit cautious of trademarks being filed since the trademark for Half-Life 3 by Valve turned out to be false, so I’ll take it seriously once I see proof of something to do with the IP in the works.

The trademarks for Desert Strike were filed for back in November 25 of this year, according to Fusible . The documents for both trademarks can be viewed here and here .

Regarding to “hints” of there being a Desert Strike remake under EA’s hood, EA itself hasn’t announced any move towards developing one, but who’s to say it won’t in the end. For its time, Desert Strike was the company’s highest selling videogame back in the early 90s, so it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if EA decided to cash in on resurrecting the IP.

The question is can we trust EA to do the IP justice? The company closed down the Command & Conquer free-to-play it had been working on after a large community backlash if I remember correctly, a franchise I certainly was wanting to see return–but that’s coming the perspective and rose-tinted glass of only having experienced the original Command & Conquer and Tiberium Sun . What I’m trying to say is would they make the same mistake and upset nostalgic feelings for those who played the Desert Strike series back in the day?

Time will tell I guess.
