If you ever wondered why there are nine mainline DragonQuest titles, maybe these Media Create numbers will help shed some light on the franchise for you. According to tracking firm Media Create, as picked up on by Andriasang, DragonQuest IX sold 2,318,932 units of the game in just the first two days since its release in Japan. That’s 100,000 more units than DQ VIII was able to manage in its first two days back in 2004. According to Andriasang, DQ VIII “previously held the record for highest first week total for a game released post 2000.” Furthermore, DQ IX has seen more than an 80% sell-through, and analysts predict it will sell more than five million units in Japan alone.
