Speaking at the Game Developers Conference in Taipei yesterday, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said that their iOS title Infinity Blade is “the most profitable game we’ve ever made—in terms of man years invested versus revenue,” even more so than their better-known blockbuster series Gears of War. Recently it was announced that Infinity Blade II made a little over $5 million in just its first month on the App Store, while the Infinity Blade series as a whole made over $30 million in the year following the launch of the series’ original entry.
“Nowadays the high end of the game business is in these console game,” Sweeney said. “Activision invests almost $100 million per year in Call of Duty. And who can realistically afford to do that?” By Jeff Dunn |
