This week Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, the follow-up to Persona 2: Innocent Sin, is slated to hit the PlayStation Store as a PSOne Classic in North America. This is, perhaps, a concession to those who have yearned to play the PSP remake of the second Persona 2 title, but do not have the requisite knowledge of Japanese.
When released in Japan on the original PlayStation, Persona 2 came in two parts. Eternal Punishment, the second part of the duo, was the only one translated into English and brought to North America, until last year when Innocent Sin was remade for the PSP and released over here.
In Japan, Eternal Punishment was also remade on the PSP, but no plans have materialized for localizing it to an American audience. Atlus seems to have moved on from the Persona-porting fever that had grabbed hold of them over the last couple of years. Instead, their focus has been on new titles such as Etrian Odyssey IV and Shin Megami Tensei IV, as well as a 3DS port/remake of Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers.
This isn’t to say we’ll never see the PSP version of Eternal Punishment over in the West, but at least now we’ll have a way to see the story.
