When you head to the Finnish countryside to meet your friend for the Midsummer festival, you’re shocked to find them missing. The game’s hook from here is that you search for clues to their potential whereabouts, posting them to social media. Your friends will comment on these posts, giving you further hints about their location.
In most of these types of games, we’d have an internal monologue for the protagonist, giving their thoughts and feelings on every development. In I Hope She’s OK, we get that in the form of their social media feed, which forces you to engage with the game to understand the story. Right now, I Hope She’s OK is a game that exists as a standalone experience, and that’s fair. It gets in, tells its story, and gets out. Because of this, it’s unlikely that we ever get a sequel to the game.
It remains to be seen if we ever get another game from inkakamu. I Hope She’s OK was their first-ever title, and there has been no indication of anything else forthcoming. It seems as though inkakamu is now working full-time as a technical animator at Vertigo Studios, which makes solo game development a tough endeavor.
