Evolution Studios, Guerrilla Cambridge, and SCE London Studio Layoffs Reported

Evolution Studios, Guerrilla Cambridge, and SCE London Studio Layoffs Reported

Earlier today, Videogamer.com released a report confirming that Evolution Studios, Guerrilla Cambridge, and SCE London Studios were all hit by massive layoffs a few hours ago. A trusted source over at Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe added that this decision was made in an attempt to restructure their studios and cut costs. The same source also added that projects currently under development by those studios wouldn’t be impacted by these layoffs.

Evolution Studios is currently working on DriveClub , while both Guerrilla Cambridge and SCE London Studio already completed work on Killzone Mercenary and The Playroom last year. DriveClub still doesn’t have an official release date, and many are starting to speculate that its delay is directly tied to today’s news.

Sony has not had a particularly good start to the year so far. While the PS4 continues to sell out at various stores across the globe, Jack Tretton’s departure and layoffs at Sony Santa Monica definitely don’t reflect positively on where the company may be heading. Hopefully everyone affected by this news can recover quickly and discover more meaningful opportunities as they become available.

Do any of you think that these layoffs are a sign that Sony may be in trouble? Please feel free to let us know your thoughts on the subject and more in the comments section below.
