Racing Fans Rejoice: Codemasters Absorbs Evolution Studios

Here’s a happy ending to a not-so-happy incident that I reported a while back. You’ll remember that Evolution Studios was shut down by Sony, who will continue to support Driveclub into the future? This was sad news for racing game fans who had really come around to Driveclub after some post-launch TLC. MotorStorm is also a long-lived fan favorite, and was one of the first PS3 games to really sell the system. Thankfully, even though Evolution is no more, its constituent members have found a new home where their talent will be appreciated and properly leveraged.

Codemasters, of Grid, Dirt, and Game Genie fame, have officially expanded and absorbed the former Evolution Studios team. In an official blog post Codemasters’ Christina McGrath said that the “expansion will not only see us gain a wealth of racing expertise and skill, but it’ll take Codemasters to the next level as the world’s largest racing-focused games company. With phenomenal racing DNA on both sides, we hope that gamers out there are excited to see what we do next…” Excited we are, and I can’t wait to write a headline in the near future about whatever project is born of this expansion.
