Fans Should Expect a More Personal Uncharted Says Director

Fans Should Expect a More Personal Uncharted Says Director

The new teaser for the upcoming Uncharted 4 was one of the most coveted pieces of footage at this year’s E3, but didn’t’ reveal much in the way of plot details.

In a recent interview, co-director Neil Druckmann reveals the lessons learned from past successes like The Last of Us , and how to delve into things like character arches and backstory in order to draw the gamer into the story. “We’ve learned a lot about how we tell stories through interactivity with The Last of Us and there are lessons that we’re applying to Uncharted 4 . It’s about finding that right balance for Uncharted –it’s definitely not going to be The Last of Us . But we are trying to make it more personal this time and see how much we can delve into who Nathan Drake really is, and what kind of effect this journey has on him and the people around him.” Says Druckmann.

This time ‘round, improved technology will provide an interesting new x-factor in the game’s development. Not only is the next-gen playing a major role, but VR as well. As for Uncharted , the director feels it’s getting there, but needs a bit more time to ripen. “…We’ve had some brainstorms over here as far as what we could do…At the same time, there’s still a lot of prove. There hasn’t yet been that one experience that says ‘Oh yeah, I have to get VR for this.’…I have yet to see that.” He states.

The much-anticipated Uncharted 4 (which is expected to be the last in the franchise) hits stores sometime in 2015.
