Game Directors Talk Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Welcome to CheatCC’s continuing day three coverage of E3 2014. We’ll be monitoring all the info and bring you the latest right from the convention floor in real-time!

One of the most anticipated trailers of E3 came in the form of Uncharted 4 , and Sony saved the best for last during their conference on Monday. Now, those behind the highly anticipated sequel give new insight into the game’s development (currently slated for a 2015 release).

In a recently interview, Bruce Straley (Game Director) and Neil Druckmann (Creative Director) talked about how nice it was to finally get back to basics, after being grounded in a gritty reality with The Last of Us .  Druckmann explains that Uncharted 2 was their first real crack at getting the expansive world designed in a way that feels epic, while also focusing on character arch. Having to shrink that concept down for ‘ Last of Us was necessary (to hit the emotional queues) but now it’s all about expanding the boundaries once again for ‘ Theif’s End .

Straely looks back on the originals and the restrictions they faced with the previous generation of consoles. However, Uncharted 4 will obviously benefit from the advances in hardware. He states there are things they were unable to achieve in the past, that now can easily be done on the PS4 with little trouble .

One of the biggest takeaways is the developer wanting players (in spite of the technical advancements) to feel invested on a personal level, which is paramount in Uncharted ’s case.
