Gears of War 3 Gets Free Update

Gears of War 3 Gets Free Update

None

Yesterday, we reported that the Gear of War 3 Horde Command Pack was delayed due to technical issues for an indeterminate amount of time. That indeterminate amount of time turned out to be just a few short hours. Yes, the Horde Command Pack is now available on Xbox LIVE, including new maps, new weapons, and new Horde Mode upgrades.

However, that’s not the only news coming out of Gears of War 3 today. The game will actually be getting a totally free map pack update on November 24th. (That’s Thanksgiving for those of you who are keeping track.)

This new free update, called the Versus Booster Map Pack, will include five maps. Two of these maps, Swamp and Clocktower, are from the original Gears of War. However, the three remaining maps are from the Horde Command Pack: Asura, Rustlung, and Blood Drive.

Now, while several Gears fans are a little salty that the maps they are paying for are suddenly accessible for free, getting these maps doesn’t unlock the other features of the Horde Command Pack such as the new weapon skins, playable characters, and fortification upgrades. And look on the bright side: you’ll have more people playing on the new maps this way, so you won’t have to spend so much time waiting in the lobby.
