Gran Turismo 5: Academy Edition Announced

Gran Turismo 5: Academy Edition Announced

None

Sony has announced that a special Academy Edition of Gran Turismo 5 will be coming to store shelves this September 26, at least in Europe.

Priced at €29.99/£19.99, the Academy Edition contains the original GT5 game and all of its post-launch DLC, which includes the Complete Pack (Car Pack, Course Pack, Special Paint Pack, Racing Gear Pack), Car Pack 2, Car Pack 3, Course Pack 2, and the Nissan GTR driven by series creator Kazunori Yamauchi in this year’s 24 hours of Nürburgring endurance race. And no, you don’t get the actual GTR, just the digital one.

Academy Edition, as you can guess, is named after the GT Academy, a training program co-run by Gran Turismo and automaker Nissan that takes the best Gran Turismo racers in the world and attempts to convert them into successful race car drivers in actual racing circuits.

“GT Academy has captured the imagination of many Gran Turismo fans. It is exciting to watch what Lucas Ordóñez, Jordan Tresson, Jann Mardenborough and Bryan Heitkotter in the USA, are achieving in their new racing careers with Nissan,” said Yamauchi.

“People can now see that it is possible to make the switch from being a fast gamer to become a real racing driver. We wanted to mark the tremendous success of GT Academy with the very latest version of GT5.”

No word has yet been given about a potential price or release date for the game here in the States, but Sony promises that “there is more news yet to come on this title,” so an announcement may be in store soon.
