Grandma’s Gaming Marathon For Charity

Grandma’s Gaming Marathon For Charity

None

Kathleen Henkel is a 68-year-old grandmother who, we hope, really enjoys PopCap Games’ Solitaire Blitz. After all, she’s going to be playing it for 30 hours, starting on Tuesday, June 26 at 9 AM EST. She and fellow gamer Laura Rich will, with the support of PopCap Games, attempt to break the Guinness World Record for “longest video game marathon playing a card game.” In the process of doing so, they hope to raise money for Charity: Water, which is a non-profit that brings clean drinking water to developing countries.

In addition to the support of PopCap, Henkel is also looking for yours; per-hour pledges may be made over at the Facebook page for Solitaire Blitz, and native New Yorkers will be able to watch her play through the window of the art gallery on the ground floor of the Roger Smith Hotel in midtown Manhattan. Those who wish to watch Rich may see her at the Sea Life London Aquarium in Cardiff, Wales at the same time.

A marathon of this length would be a challenge for most anyone, but Henkel seems optimistic: “I’m really determined to reach the goal of 30 consecutive hours,” she said, “I’ll be ordering lots of coffee!”
