Halo 5 Microtransactions Made Big Money

Halo 5 Microtransactions Made Big Money

Halo 5 is one of the Xbox One’s biggest games, so you know it was making serious bank. However, just how much money has been made has been clarified. The game has optional in-app purchases, where people can spend cash to buy REQ credit packs instead of earning them in-game. Since REQ microtransactions were tied to the prize pool for the 2016 Halo World Championship, it’s been worked out that over $1.5 million has been made on in-game purchases.

Here’s how we know. The 2016 Halo World Championship prize pool started at $1 million. The REQ microtransaction money went toward increasing that amount. It’s now locked in at $2.5 million, meaning $1.5 million was made off of the Halo 5 players.

This also means the people who win this year’s Halo World Championship prize are going to get a ton of money. The winning team will get $1 million, which is console eSports’ highest amount yet.

The 2016 Halo World Championships will be held March 18-20 in Hollywood, California.
