IGDA Study Shows Increase in Percentage of Women in Game Industry

IGDA Study Shows Increase in Percentage of Women in Game Industry

The International Game Developers Association has conducted and a workplace study of the game industry. Some of these surveys relate to whether “crunch” is necessary in game development as well as other results pertaining to job satisfaction. However, one of the more optimistic trends is the growth of women working in the game industry.

As previously thought, the game industry is still largely dominated by men. According to the results, 76% of workers are male while 22% of workers are female. However, a similar study in 2009 shows that 11.5% of female employees made up the workforce. This shows that growth of women developers has doubled since 2009.

The IGDA released more results from its study, all of which they’ll use to improve overall satisfaction of working the game industry.
