Interplay Selling Entire Portfolio of IPs, Assets

Interplay Selling Entire Portfolio of IPs, Assets

Developer and publisher Interplay Entertainment has recently announced that it will be selling its entire portfolio of assets and IPs. That portfolio consists of some 70 titles and dozens of characters. “Interplay has entertained millions of players with its well-recognized games, including Earthworm Jim, Freespace, Giants, Kingpin, Messiah, MDK, Run Like Hell, Sacrifice, Battlechess, Clayfighter, Dark Alliance, and Descent,” Interplay’s president Eric Caen said in a statement . The company had recently retreated to quiet obscurity after last year’s failed crowdfunding campaign for a Freespace board game.

This isn’t such terrible news, though. After all, it means that some new publisher might be able to acquire the rights to make a really cool new MDK or revive a classic like Earthworm Jim . Caen went on to say that “With the proliferation of mobile, augmented reality, virtual reality and other new forms of consumption, we believe that consumers are ready to experience and interact with Interplay’s characters, stories and gameplay in ways never possible before.” We’ll keep you updated with any interesting developments as the sale moves forward.
