Isaac Blocked By Nintendo; Bound To Sony?

None

Indie game The Binding of Isaac is a real trip, with haunting music and grotesque visuals in the familiar style of Team Meat’s first project, Super Meat Boy, but taken to an unsettling extreme. The game is named for, and its story inspired by, the biblical tale of Abraham offering his sole son, Isaac, as a sacrifice to God. In the game’s plot, Isaac’s mother hears the voice of God telling her that her son is impure, and he must be purged of these impurities first by isolation, then (when that proves insufficient) death. Players, as Isaac, must escape this fate.

The game was slated to hit the 3DS eShop, but has since been blocked by Nintendo due to the title’s “Questionable Religious Content.” Though disappointed, developer Edward McMillen has stated that he bears Nintendo no ill will for their decision.

That has not stopped him from pursuing release on the PlayStation platform, the Vita seeming like a particularly cozy home for a game that is anything but. The Binding of Isaac is presently available on the PC via digital download, and, if the content doesn’t upset you, comes highly recommended. There are far worse ways to blow five bucks.
