Jack Tretton to Step Down from Sony Computer Entertainment America

Jack Tretton to Step Down from Sony Computer Entertainment America

As reported by Reuters , Sony announced on Thursday, March 6, that the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, Jack Tretton, will be stepping down from his position at the end of this month, ending his near 20-year career at the company.

Sony has not provided a specific reason as to why Tretton has stepped down from his position, but Tretton has assured that the decision was mutual. His resignation came about following an agreement between him and the company to “not renew their contractual relationship.”

“As one of the founding members of the executive team, Tretton played a pivotal role in launching all PlayStation platforms in North America,” Sony said in its statement. The company also stated that executive vice president Shawn Layden will be succeeding Tretton on April 1.

Tretton started working for Sony back in March, 1995, and was a founding member of the PlayStation team of that year. He was involved in the development and publishing of most of the PlayStation consoles–the original PlayStation, the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Move and PlayStation Vita.

He has also presented Sony at E3 from 2007 through to 2013, where he received a standing ovation once announcing details about the PlayStation 4.
