Japan’s Surprise Best-Selling Console of 2010

Japan’s Surprise Best-Selling Console of 2010

None

If I had to guess which video game console sold the most this year in Japan, I’d probably place my money on either the Nintendo DS or the PlayStation 3. However, in a surprising twist, the console that has moved the most units this year is the PSP! While Sony’s little handheld continues to struggle in the American market, the success of the newest iteration of the Monster Hunter series drove sales of the PSP to 2,729,718 in the Japanese region in 2010.

Although the PSP did sell incredibly well, the DS didn’t do too shabby either, selling 2,719,544 units. Of course, this can also be explained by a monster hunting title released this year for the DS: Pokémon Black and White.

So what was Japan’s worst-selling console this year? Unsurprisingly, it was the Xbox 360, which only managed to move 231,258 units this year. Ouch!
