Korea’s Favorite MMO Blade & Soul Arrives in the West

Korea’s Favorite MMO Blade & Soul Arrives in the West

Blade & Soul isn’t a new game; it’s just new to us. It actually came out in Korea in 2012, then China in 2013, and Japan in 2014. Now NCSoft is releasing the game in Europe and North America with hopes that it will enjoy the success it achieved in Korea. When the game came out in China it was already extremely popular, and gained 1 million registered users in a month’s time; but is it too late for Blade & Soul to succeed in the States?

While the game may not sport next-gen visuals, it does have a lot to offer for those who are tired of the familiar MMO stereotypes. Blade & Soul is definitely a product of the East, heavily inspired by the Wuxia genre, which you find portrayed in movies like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Movement in this game is fast and fluid; players can sprint at lightning speeds, jump to high places, and run across water. There’s also a heavy emphasis on PvP, and the combat takes a few tips from fighting games. You won’t just be pushing the occasional hotkey here, you’ll need to learn moves and combos to succeed. You can play the game now for free. Microtransactions will unlock special currency for loot and certain boosters. Check it out here .
