The dictatorship of North Korea has turned to alternative forms of fundraising. According to South Korean authorities, Kim Jong Il has organized a team of hackers to infiltrate and manipulate popular online games in the pursuit of virtual currency, which North Korea intends to turn into real cash.

So far, despite arrests, the plan appears to be working, seeing revenue of approximately $6 million in less than two years.



The hackers, operating out of Northern China, would gain illicit entry into games’ servers, allowing unmanned computers to take over the farming operation. Yes, a bot army of virtual gold harvesters generating real income for a dictatorship’s ruling individual. Kim Jong Il has his own robot army.

Not that he’s willing to admit as much. North Korea’s official position on the matter is that they are not responsible and that South Korea is simply inventing a conspiracy.
