League Of Legends Invests Heavily In E-Sports

None

Recently, Riot Games have announced their plans for League of Legends’ third season, which may be one of the hugest investments we have ever seen in the world of E-Sports.

First, they announced the Championship Series. This series of tournaments will be held and overseen by Riot Games themselves. Of course, gaming tournaments are nothing new, but Riot Games is actually paying to allow certain teams to compete. The top eight teams from North America, Europe, and Asia will be offered salaries to compete in these tournaments. Actual, cold hard cash, pro-gamer salaries. Riot is one of the first companies to ever offer its top players money simply for playing. This is a huge step toward recognizing pro gaming as an actual sport.

Along with the salaries, Riot has promised prize pools and tournament bonuses larger than ever before. They are also hoping to restructure the season to be more like traditional pro sporting events. They will hold multiple matches every week, eventually progressing into regional playoffs and ending with the world championship. Hopefully this will take place in some kind of gigantic stadium.

In addition, Riot has promised HD streaming for all of its events. So you can have a couple of your friends over, crack open a few beers, and watch all the League of Legends awesomeness unfold in true sports fan style.
