We have heard this scam time and time again. A new console comes out and eBay users begin looking to scam the ravenous hoards of gamers looking to adopt on day one. This is what happened to Peter Clatworthy, who paid £450 or nearly $750 U.S. for nothing more than a picture of an Xbox One. You can find these scam listings all over eBay. They list all the features of the Xbox One, but in fine print they mention that the listing is only for a photo of the console. The scam is designed to prey on people who don’t read product descriptions and jump headfirst into buying deals.
Well, electronic outlet CEX has taken pity on Peter and has decided to honor his eBay auction in spirit by giving Peter a brand new Xbox One. Peter will also be receiving a full refund from PayPal, so he essentially got his Xbox One for free, or at the very least, at the expense of a bit of frustration. Peter says he won’t be shopping online again, and more importantly, he says that there are plenty of other people out there who aren’t reporting scams when they fall victim to them. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like these users will be receiving free consoles any time soon.
