Marvel May Be Tapping Johnny Depp to Play Dr. Strange

According to Latino Review, Marvel may be in talks with Johnny Depp to play Dr. Strange. Don’t know who Dr. Strange is? Well don’t say that out loud! The Marvel Geeks will hear you, and then all you can do is run…

Dr. Strange is the Sorcerer Supreme. A former neurosurgeon, Strange becomes involved in the mystic arts through a series of twists that pretty much put the fate of the world at stake. Strange is easily one of the most powerful figures in the Marvel universe, and has protected the Marvel world from destruction multiple times. When a Marvel plotline has to do with demons, dimensional shifting, or magic spells, you can expect Strange to be there. Oh, and he’s also a bit of a ladies man.

Doesn’t Depp seem like a perfect fit for the role? Marvel was supposedly originally planning to make a standalone movie about a 30 year old Strange, which is valid, but we know Strange in the Marvel universe to be much older. Depp, being 50 years old himself, may cause the writers to retool the script, likely to pleasure of many Marvel fans. Currently, Depp’s involvement in the film is unclear and even the talks themselves are just rumors, but if Depp does join up, we likely won’t even see the movie hit theaters until 2016 or later.
