Metal Gear Solid 4 to the Xbox 360…Again?

None

Metal Gear Solid 4 is undeniably one of the biggest third party exclusives that the PlayStation 3 has, and losing this exclusive would be a huge blow for Sony.  Over the course of its development, MGS4 has been rumored to be coming to the Xbox 360 a few times, although each time it has been enthusiastically reconfirmed as a PS3 exclusive.  Now, after some alleged statements from Konami, the rumor resurfaces.

The gaming site Xbox Family apparently spoke with a representative from Konami that said an Xbox 360 version of MGS4 would arrive around 12 to 14 months after the PlayStation 3 version was released.  Xbox Family also has an official letter from Microsoft’s John Porcaro, which doesn’t confirm or deny the rumor in a lengthy and circuitous manner, which strengthens the rumor’s validity, especially in the eyes of X360 owners hoping to get their hands on MGS4.

Last year (Happy New Year!) Ryan Payton, the producer on MGS4, did state that to recoup their costs, MGS4 would have to sell a million copies the day it was released.  Due to expensive development costs, most game companies are going multiplatform to reach a wider market and sell more copies, and if MGS4’s production is as expensive as Payton avers, it seems likely that Konami would release the game on Xbox 360 as well to achieve more sales.  We’ll have to wait and see on this rumor, but it is looking more and more likely as MGS4’s release date approaches.
