Metroid: Other M Designed Like an NES Game

While most 3D games for the Wii rely on using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to get around, Metroid: Other M’s creators wanted to go in a different direction. In the most recent installment of Nintendo’s Iwata Asks feature, Team Ninja’s Yosuke Hayashi discussed some interesting details about the controls being used for this upcoming Metroid title.

Hayashi states “What Sakamoto-san had in mind…was to make the controls as simple as those of a NES game,” referring to Other M lead producer Yoshio Sakamoto. He further elaborates “When I asked Sakamoto-san ‘So it’s a NES game with the latest technology, right?’ he replied ‘That’s exactly what it is.'” With the series’ extensive history of using only a D-pad and a few buttons, this will likely work out just fine and could even win back some fans who were put off by the first-person shooter transition the series recently went through.
