While most 3D games for the Wii rely on using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to get around, Metroid: Other M’s creators wanted to go in a different direction. In the most recent installment of Nintendo’s Iwata Asks feature, Team Ninja’s Yosuke Hayashi discussed some interesting details about the controls being used for this upcoming Metroid title.
![]() Hayashi states “What Sakamoto-san had in mind…was to make the controls as simple as those of a NES game,” referring to Other M lead producer Yoshio Sakamoto. He further elaborates “When I asked Sakamoto-san ‘So it’s a NES game with the latest technology, right?’ he replied ‘That’s exactly what it is.'” With the series’ extensive history of using only a D-pad and a few buttons, this will likely work out just fine and could even win back some fans who were put off by the first-person shooter transition the series recently went through. |
