Microsoft Helps Hacker “Develop His Talent”

Microsoft Helps Hacker “Develop His Talent”

None

If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. Or, in the case of Microsoft, make them join you. Around a month ago, back when the PSN outage was the biggest thing in the news, Xbox Live users were alerted to a tiny little hacking problem of their own. A phishing scam was being run via the popular online title Modern Warfare 2. What sort of nefarious group could have done this?

Microsoft’s Paul Rellis spoke about the hacking ordeal, explaining that the perpetrator was a 14-year-old from Dublin Ireland. However, instead of pressing charges or attempting to get the kid in trouble in any way, Microsoft is now working with the teenager. Apparently, they acknowledge that it took skill to run this phishing scam, and they are “working with [him] to develop his talent” so he can “use his skills for legitimate purposes.” That’s mighty nice of Microsoft—making a real difference in the life of a young hacker.
