Sony Hacked—Again

Sony Hacked—Again

None

If Hackers are flies, then Sony is the honey—77 million accounts worth of honey.

So yeah, Sony was hacked again, but at least it wasn’t the PSN this time. Instead, it was So-net, Sony’s internet provider in Japan, that got the hack job. The cyber intruders entered So-net’s rewards site and managed to steal over 1,100 dollars worth of their customers’ “gift points.” So there is some Japanese guy just waiting to spend his points on, I don’t know, a Sackboy keychain or whatever, and now he has to start saving up all over again. Today is truly a sad day.

Keisuke Watabe, a So-net Entertainment spokesman, told the Wall Street Journal that Sony cannot completely rule out the possibility that this attack was linked to Anonymous and the PSN breach. However, he did say the likelihood was low, since the method used to hack the servers was different than the one used in the PSN breach. In short, Sony Thailand’s website had security flaws, and the hackers took advantage of them. So there is no reason to get your Guy Fawkes masks out yet: this looks more like some dude just running a rewards scam.
