If for some reason you haven’t heard about the recent PS3 hacks, here’s what happened: a guy named George Hotz, AKA Geohot, broke through the security encryption on the PS3. Now Sony is having a hard time trying to undo this mess, after people started playing pirated games, unlocking trophies illegally, cheating at Call of Duty, and basically being general nuisances to Sony. Sony filed a temporary restraining order against Geohot, which the courts have recently approved. Hotz also has been given ten days to turn in all his computers, hard drives, and miscellaneous hacker-type things to the court. ![]() In an effort to curb stomp the rest of the hackers (or just deter them for the moment) a security patch has been issued to the PS3’s firmware. Score one for Sony. Wait. What’s this? Less than twenty-four hours after the firmware was released, it was successfully hacked. Loser hackers win again. |
