World of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck is a magical platform game that takes place in the world of Disney. The game was released on December 14, 1992, for the Sega Genesis. It was both developed and published by Sega.
World of Illusion received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and players alike. At the time of its release, it was even praised for having some of the best graphics in a Disney game. To this day, the game is still considered one of the best for the Sega Genesis. For that reason, it is clear to see why the Illusion series is still ongoing.
World of Illusion Premise
In the wonderful world of Disney, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck are preparing to perform a magical act. But in the middle of preparation, these amateur magicians find a magical box. Little do they know, this magical box was sent by the evil magician Pete. After interacting with the box, both Mickey and Donald get sucked inside and sent to a magical world full of illusions.
If they want to get home, they must use their magic and work together. To do this they must learn new magic tricks, traverse the five stages, defeat multiple stage bosses, and finally defeat the evil Pete who sent them here. Remember, the show must go on.
World of Illusion Main Characters
The players have the option to play as either of Disney’s most iconic characters, Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck. Or they can grab a friend and an extra controller and experience the magic with both of them.
Both characters can run, jump, and flourish their magical cape as an attack move. Since this is a quirky Disney game, enemies aren’t technically killed. They are magically turned into harmless butterflies, flowers, doves, and playing cards. Most of Mickey and Donald’s abilities are the same, except when traveling to different stages.
Mickey can squeeze through certain gaps that Donald can’t which leads to Mickey and Donald occasionally having their own optional stages that are only available for their respective character. But for those playing two-player, characters can stand on each other’s shoulders, pull each other through, or toss a rope down for each other so they can stick together.
