PS3 Finally Hacked?

PS3 Finally Hacked?

None

If renowned iPhone hacker George Hotz is to be believed (we’re pretty sure he’s telling the truth), the PS3 has finally been hacked.

Today, Mr. Hotz posted on his personal blog that it took him five weeks of work, but that he has been able to hack the PS3:

“I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. I have a lot of reversing ahead of me, as I now have dumps of LV0 and LV1. I’ve also dumped the NAND without removing it or a modchip.”

Hotz has given an interview to the BBC’s Jonathan Fildes saying, “I can now do whatever I want with the system. It’s like I’ve got an awesome new power – I’m just not sure how to wield it.”

According to the BBC report, “Mr Hotz said that he was continuing to work on the hack and, once finished, would publish details online in a similar way to his previous iPhone exploits.”

Sony responded to the claim by telling the BBC it was “investigating the report” and that it would “clarify the situation” when information came to light.
