3DS Too Weak for Unreal Engine?

3DS Too Weak for Unreal Engine?

None

The Unreal Engine has certainly been around for quite awhile, and although it has been used for a plethora of titles on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, heads were turned several months ago when the Unreal Engine was successfully used on the iPhone platform. However, if you think the Unreal Engine is the next big thing in the handheld game market, you’d be wrong, according to Epic Games VP Mark Rein. In an interview, he was recently asked if Epic Games would consider making a game using the Unreal Engine for the 3DS, and this was his response:

“No. It’s below our [minimum specifications], from what we can tell. We don’t have a 3DS, so there’s no way for us to verify that, but everything we’ve been led to believe is that it’s below our min-spec.”

Although early reports have indicated that the 3DS will use dual ARM-11 processors and have plenty of RAM, it seems that cell phones seem to have the edge when it comes to Epic Games’ investment dollar.
