PlayStation 3 Updates To 3.66

PlayStation 3 Updates To 3.66

None

Today Sony has released a PlayStation 3 firmware update, which brings us to version 3.66. According to Sony, the update improves “system stability during the use of PS3 format software and network services.” What that exactly is, we aren’t sure. However, after digging through our own PS3s, we can safely say that there are no new options or functionality to speak of.

The update is also supposed to “improve network services,” though running a latency test on my personal PS3’s connection did not show any difference. From a more subjective standpoint, I don’t actually notice my online fighting game experience becoming any smoother.

So just what does this patch do? Most likely it is some sort of security update that makes the system more impenetrable to hackers. While I would normally say something in defense of the homebrew community here, after Sony’s most recent run-in with hackers, I’d say we need all the security features we can get. Thanks for protecting us, Sony.
