Microsoft on Cross-Network Play: “We’re Ready”

Eurogamer sat down with ID@Xbox’s European boss man Agostino Simonetta (it doesn’t get any more European than that) to discuss Xbox One dev kits and rap a little about cross-network multiplayer. Last month Microsoft made a not-so-direct (but obviously direct) challenge to Sony to accept its invitation to collaborate on a cross-network treaty, and Simonetta has reaffirmed Microsoft’s enthusiasm on that front. “Any title that wants to update their game to include cross-network play, any title that wants to launch soon and take advantage of that, we are ready,” he says.

Unfortunately we still don’t know when we’ll actually see this come to fruition. We’re still missing two pieces of the puzzle, after all. Sony has to be open to the idea, of course, and then the developers have to hammer out the details. Simonetta said that “…we don’t force developers to release at any point – it’ll be when the developers are ready.” He still sounds very optimistic, reiterating, “We’re ready. Rocket League is the first game – and it is a heavily network-oriented game.” Of course Rocket League is already cross-network capable, so hopefully it’s only a matter of time before we have some really exciting news for you guys.
