Monster Hunter may not be a booming success in North America, but it’s actually one of the biggest game franchises of all time, with over 18 million units sold over its lifetime on the PlayStation 2, PSP, Xbox 360, and Wii. However, publisher Capcom is looking to give its sales numbers a boost with Monster Hunter: Ultimate Fighting, which is set to debut later this year on a whole new platform: the iPhone. Why is this such big news? Well, aside from the fact that one of the biggest franchises ever made is going to a whole new platform, putting the game on the iPhone will introduce it to a whole new set of gamers (the much chased-after casual set) and hopefully a whole new region. We all know Americans love their iPhone games (Angry Birds just passed the 20 million download mark) so hopefully this new version of Monster Hunter will introduce Region 1 gamers to what could be Japan’s best kept secret: Monster Hunter is awesome! |
