This game looks fantastic. This is the first I’ve seen of it, but it looks like a horror inspired Minecraft (though, let’s face it, Minecraft can be pretty damn scary). Over on the official site the developers explain that “ The Forest is an open world survival horror game currently in development for PC,” and the Oculus Rift , apparently. I can imagine having trouble playing this game on PC, never mind having it all happen right up in my face through the Oculus…
The juxtaposition of a vivid, colourful, and largely peaceful jungle landscape with the horrors that occur after dark (and those caves, ohh those caves…) seems like a sure-fire hit. It looks like Walden , with zombies. Or think Into the Wild , with violent night scenes… “chop down trees to build a camp, or start a fire to keep warm. Scavenge food to keep yourself from starving. Find and plant seeds to grow food.”
I can’t wait. I want this game now, now !
