New PSP Firmware, No Store In Sight

New PSP Firmware, No Store In Sight

None

Today, Sony rolled out the PSP 6.39 firmware, which offers a guiding hand through the password reset process for those who still need to reset their PSN passwords. Unfortunately, this update does not coincide with the return of the PlayStation Store, which, despite Sony’s internal target of May 24, will apparently not go live today.

While no specific date has been given for the revival, James Gallagher of SCEE and Jeff Rubenstein of the U.S. PlayStation blog have both stated that Sony still aims to have the store ready to go by the end of May.

The PSN outage, which began on April 21 after an external intrusion was detected, was brought to a close on May 15 when it went back online in North America, though the PlayStation Store did not return with it. The downtime has cut into the profits of developers who sell content on the PlayStation store and has cost Sony an estimated $170 million.
