Nintendo Drops DS Lite to Lite-price of $99

None

It was in the weeks leading up to the 3DS launch that we first heard rumblings of the DS Lite being pulled off the market. What appeared to be a leaked, internal memo from Gamestop lent credence to the suspicion that the last system, still produced and sold as new, capable of playing GBA cartridges would soon be taken off store shelves.

Nintendo has announced, however, that as of June 5th, the most popular edition of Nintendo’s DS line will be dropping to a $99 MSRP. Furthermore, six of the handheld’s most popular Mario titles will be repackaged in red cases, in contrast to the standard dark grey: Mario Kart DS, New Super Mario Bros., Mario Party DS, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story and Super Mario 64 DS.

Said Reggie Fils-Aime, “This new price point will introduce Nintendo DS Lite to even more consumers, and the new red packaging will make it easy for them to find their favorite Mario titles.”
