The new Nintendo DSi XL, the new, larger handheld system in the DS family of gaming products, is set to launch in North America on March 28, 2010 for $189.99. The DSi XL features dual-screens that are 93 percent larger than those of the Nintendo DS Lite model, “providing a more vivid and engaging play experience.” Moreover, the screens of the Nintendo DSi XL allow for a wider viewing angle, “letting friends and family members join the fun.” The DSi XL will hit retail in two color choices: Burgundy and Bronze. They will both come pre-loaded with software and apps including Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters, Brain Age Express: Math and Photo Clock, the Nintendo DSi Browser, and Flipnote Studio.
It has been posited that the larger screens and wider viewing angle could turn the DSi XL into a Kindle competitor. As if to confirm that intention, Nintendo also announced today that 100 Classic Books will be launched on June 14, 2010 and will give readers access to “a library of timeless literature,” including works from authors such as William Shakespeare, Jules Verne, Jane Austen, Mark Twain, and more. 100 Classic Books will work with any DS handheld and let readers “adjust the size of text, place bookmarks, and even download new content via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service.” The cartridge will retail for $19.99. |
