Nintendo Hires New Online VP

Nintendo Hires New Online VP

Nintendo announced today that they will be hiring Duncan Orrell-Jones as their new senior vice president of network business. Orrell-Jones will be heading up development of Nintendo of America’s digital business for both the Wii U and 3DS.

Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime says that this is all part of the company’s commitment to the expansion of their online business, adding that “Duncan is the perfect person for the job.”

Even though the Wii had some rudimentary online functions, it will pale in comparison to the Wii U. Nintendo seems to be doing away with friend codes and other awkward online restrictions, instead adopting a simpler and more straightforward online platform.

While this is great news for fans, Nintendo still doesn’t have much experience in the online world. Lacking much of this experience due to their previous online policies, the Wii U is a great chance to show fans that they can create a serious hardcore online gaming system.

Of course, that means they will need to hire people who have experience in the online sector. Orrell-Jones previously worked at Disney where he served as senior vice president in the Disney Interactive Media Group, making him a good choice for the position.
