Nintendo Is Thinking About New Franchises

Even though Pikmin 3 is finally picking up speed, and the next Super Smash Bros. has been confirmed, Nintendo is still a bit behind in the title release race. Their newest system, the Wii U, has been particularly affected by the lack of games and has begun to stagnate in the console market. Luckily, it seems that Nintendo senior managing director Shigeru Miyamoto has a plan.

“We’ll have Mario Kart 8 out next spring, and at that point we’ll have the whole lineup in place,” Miyamoto explained, “so I think it’s about time we brought out a new franchise. Polygon’s report of Famitsu’s interview goes on to detail that Miyamoto later confirmed that “I can’t give out any details, but that’s the title that’s been keeping me pretty busy lately.”

While we know virtually nothing about the game, we can infer, or at least pray, that it will be coming to the Wii U. However, Nintendo has ardently promoted cross-platform releases in the past, so it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the game make landfall on the 3DS as well.
