Zelda Series Master Timeline Confirmed

Zelda Series Master Timeline Confirmed

None

Whether the Legend of Zelda series has a definitive timeline has been the center of much debate over the years. Some deny the possibility outright, while others work tirelessly to try to piece the, perhaps imagined, clues together as proof. While it has always seemed like the titles were interrelated to me, it has been impossible to factually state that they are all a part of the same timeline, until today.

In an interview between the Official Nintendo Magazine and Eiji Aonuma (via GoNintendo), Aonuma confirmed the existence of a master timeline for the series. Aonuma stated “Yes there is a master timeline but its confidential document! The only people to have access to that document are myself, Mr. Miyamoto and the director of the title. We cant share it with anyone else! I have already talked to Mr. Miyamoto about this so I am comfortable in releasing this information – this title [Skyward Sword] takes place before Ocarina of Time. if I said that a certain title was ‘the first Zelda game’, then that means that we cant ever make a title that takes place before that! So for us to add titles to the series, we have to have a way of putting the titles before or after each other.” While the “there is a timeline but no one can see it but us” routine might seem like a copout, it does give those looking for connections a more concrete reason to continue searching.
