Nintendo Wins Legal Battle Against Triton Tech Over Patent Troll

Nintendo Wins Legal Battle Against Triton Tech Over Patent Troll

In 2010, Triton Tech filed a lawsuit against Nintendo claiming that the video game company had infringed on its technology with their Wii remotes. Nintendo recently announced that the court decided to drop the lawsuit on June 13, 2014.

According to Polygon, Nintendo issued a press release that describes their positive feelings towards the result while discussing their views on intellectual property.

“We are very pleased with this result,” said deputy general counsel Richard Medway. “Nintendo has a long tradition of developing unique and innovative products, while respecting the intellectual property rights of others. Nintendo continues to aggressively defend itself against patent trolls. After many years of litigation, the decision today reflects an appropriate resolution of this case.”

This isn’t the first time Triton filed a lawsuit against Nintendo. Judge Richard A. Jones of the Seattle district court dismissed Triton’s previous lawsuit because the company couldn’t prove that its patent was valid. It appears the judge remains steadfast about his ruling against the patent troll.
