When a game’s doing well, what’s the first question that comes to mind? That’s right, when’s the sequel going to be out? In the case of Mojang and Microsoft’s Minecraft , there’s still no news about any follow-up project. Mojang CEO Jonas Martensson told IGN at Gamescom 2015 that the developer is focusing on updates for the original game.
Martensson said there wouldn’t be a Minecraft 2 in the forseeable future. Instead, he said Mojang is focusing on the original Minecraft . Instead of focusing on the next iteration, the plan is to release continual updates and listen to what the players have to say, to ensure the current game is everything anyone could want.
However, a Minecraft 2 wasn’t completely ruled out. Perhaps some years in the future, a successor will appear.
