Paragon Will Be Free-to-Play, You Can Pay for Early Access

Paragon is shaping up to be one of the prettiest MOBAs I’ve ever seen in action. Epic’s anticipated hero / shooter is set to release this summer, but you can start playing in a couple of weeks if you’re willing to pay. $20 will get you the Founder’s Pack, which grants you early access to the game starting on March 18, as well as some skins, boosts, and other cosmetic items. There is also a Challenger and Master Pack ($60 and $100, respectively), which come with additional goodies, as well as extra Founder’s Packs to gift your friends.

Taking the place of item shops in games like DOTA 2 and LoL, Paragon uses a cards and deck system for its heroes. Cards can only be unlocked by playing the game, so there’s no pay-to-win setup here. “The game will never be pay-to-win, meaning we will never sell gameplay-affecting items. We will sell cosmetic items (skins, emotes), boosts [sic] other convenience items, as well as early access. We’re taking this approach because we believe that competitive games need to fair for all players.” If you had previously signed up for the beta (like I did), you’ll be invited to play in free Beta Weekends during the early access period.
