Phil Spencer Talks Microsoft and E3 2014

With Microsoft’s Xbox One getting off to a bit of a rocky start (and the companies various missteps over the last several months) saying they need to hit a home run at this year’s E3 would be an understatement.

As the momentum begins to build towards the video game industry’s biggest event of the year, some fans are already starting to wonder what Microsoft will bring to the table. When asked via Twitter what news might we expect from the Xbox maker in a few weeks, Spencer responded by saying “…we’ll announce both new IP and new sequels at E3.”

The Xbox One has had a strong showing over the last several months since it dropped in November, but has yet to overtaken its PlayStation counterpart. Not to mention that this E3 holds an entirely new level of importance for Microsoft. Many will remember the terrible time the company had last year, with the announcement of several new policies that did nothing but garner vitriol from gamers. The subsequent backlash resulted in a reversal of many of these propositions (and thus began the 2013-14 apology tour by Spencer).

So what does Microsoft need to bring to E3 in order to truly put the memory of last year’s debacle behind them? Tune in tomorrow as I break down what a successful showing could look like (and just how important it is they don’t repeat past mistakes).
