Pokemon Go Has Invaded MMA

Pokemon Go Has Invaded MMA

Everybody wants to be the very best, like no one ever was, now that Pokemon Go has become such a huge thing. Even MMA fighters, who have an actual opportunity to prove they are the best in the ring. Michael “Venom” Page defeated Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos during a match on June 16, and his victory pose is clearly that of someone who’s been playing Pokemon Go .

During Bellator 158, Page ended the match by kneeing Santos in the head. Before realizing the gravity of Santos’ injury, Page grabbed a PokeBall baseball cap, put it on, then rolled a Poke Ball toward Santos. The Pokemon Go reference was a victory taunt showing Page had beaten his opponent so badly, he absolutely owned him.

Here’s the official footage from the MMA event. It is violent, so keep that in mind before watching. Santos’ skull was fractured from the move.

Between some businesses offering Pokemon Go discounts based on their trainer level or team association, the news doing segments on why the app is down, and now an MMA fighter referencing the game during his match, one can only wonder how many more elements will creep into our daily life.
