Prey 2 Slides Out Of 2012

Prey 2 Slides Out Of 2012

None

Perhaps the first thing to cover here isn’t the change in Prey 2’s release date, but the fact that the game is confirmed to still be in development. This comes as a relief on the heels of months with nothing said about the title, culminating in a March rumor that the sci-fi sequel had been canned. The release has, however, been pushed back out of 2012.

Don’t cry foul just yet. In the same statement in which Bethesda confirms the game’s continued development and breaks the news of its delay, the publisher explains its decision. Stating that Prey 2 “has shown great promise” and that the developers “regret disappointing [their] fans,” Bethesda is delaying the game due to quality concerns, adamant that the release be of AAA caliber. A release schedule, says Bethesda, is not something the developer will compromise its quality standards to meet.

Certainly an admirable decision to make, and though it’s disappointing that we won’t see Prey 2’s sci-fi bounty hunting this year, the fact that the developers are shooting for a polished experience is heartening indeed. Let’s just hope that, unlike its predecessor, Prey 2 isn’t delayed past its point of relevance.
