According to Acclaim developer David Perry on his Twitter and Facbook accounts, as picked up by Kotaku, Sony is ditching UMDs for the PSP 2. Perry wrote, “I hear Sony FINALLY has the PSP 2. And thank goodness, they’ve removed the stupid battery-sucking UMD disc drive. I’m excited!” This is still unconfirmed from Sony, and because of the hearsay nature of the report, file this one as a rumor. Still, with the falling prices of memory and the inefficient way disc drives use energy, this is a rumor that will likely prove true.
