Rare Ultima Games Sells for $3,050 on eBay

Rare Ultima Games Sells for $3,050 on eBay

As reported by Polygon , a rare but complete copy of Ultima: Escape from Mt. Drash , a spin-off of the Ultima RPG franchise that’s allegedly quite rare, was sold on eBay over the weekend (Saturday, March 1) for over $3,000 / £1,794.

Sierra Online (now known as the defunct Sierra Entertainment), released Escape from Mt. Drash on the Commodore VIC-20 way back in 1983. According to Polygon, someone claiming to have worked for the company at the time stated that Sierra produced no more that 5,000 copies of the game.

Allegedly, the first time any of those 5,000 copies showed up since the 80s was 14 years ago, back in 2000. The first complete copy of Escape from Mt. Drash was snatched on eBay in 2004 for $3,605, by a collector named Peter Olafson.

It just so happens that Olafson is also the person behind the the sale of the very same Ultima , unfortunately at $555 / £332 loss from when he bought it 10 years ago. The package included the original VIC-20 cassette in a plastic case, as well as the instructions and the original box.
