It sounds like the upcoming Nintendo 3DS will follow in the footsteps of the DSi and will be region-locked. This means that, like DVD players, the 3DS will only work with games released in the same territory – bad news for those in the United States or Europe hoping to import the 3DS from Japan.  While this restriction is commonplace in the video game industry, handheld consoles are usually exempt, with the exception of the DSi and DSi XL. |
